Custom stainless steel sculptures with Gold mirror-polished, LV's global standard
Where the project began
Louis Vuitton required custom sculptural facial-feature display elements incorporating LV brand motifs —
The core engineering challenge was threefold: holding the precise curvature geometry defined by LV’s creative team through the full fabrication process; achieving a mirror gold-plated finish that meets luxury hardware specification at display scale; and delivering long-term weather resistance in a high-footfall outdoor retail setting — all within a single production workflow.
From sketch to proposal
The guiding principle was that every Stainless steel sculpture surface, including those that face obliquely or are seen only from specific viewing angles, was held to the same finish standard. Luxury retail environments attract the kind of attention that finds the concession a designer made when they were tired; there were no concessions.
Mirror gold at LV standard is not a finish — it's a specification.
Premium stainless steel provides the structural rigidity required for complex curved display forms, a base surface that accepts mirror polishing to luxury specification, and proven corrosion resistance for long-term outdoor installation.
For a brief requiring simultaneous precision, finish depth, and weather durability, it is the only material that delivers all three without compromise.
- CNC cutting and custom-jig forminghold every curvature to the tolerance defined in LV’s approved 3D concept files.
- TIG welding and weld dressing blend all joins to a continuous, seamless surface — no visible transition into the parent steel.
- Multi-stage mechanical polishing— coarse abrasive through to finishing compound — brings every visible face to full mirror reflectivity
- Nickel strike and bright nickel base coat electroplated to provide adhesion foundation and a flawless substrate for the gold layer.
- Clear protective seal applied for outdoor humidity and UV resistance, rated for 5–8 years of exterior exposure.
The making
Production followed five tightly controlled stages: precision 3D modelling from LV’s creative concept; custom SS fabrication of the facial feature elements with integrated brand motifs; advanced metallurgical forming for curvature accuracy and structural durability; and final quality control inspection against LV’s global verification standard.
The final presentation
The installation passed Louis Vuitton’s global quality standards verification and was approved for display without revision. Installed at Taikoo Li — Chengdu’s luxury retail destination
