A Collapsible Structure Designed for Efficient Shipping
Transporting a fully assembled large balloon would require excessive packaging space and increase international shipping costs. Our team therefore developed a collapsible structure inspired by the opening mechanism of an umbrella.
Flexible metal wire is integrated into the sewn fabric panels, allowing the balloon to fold into a compact form for packing and expand into its intended three-dimensional shape during installation. A precision-milled acrylic connector secures the internal frame at the top and helps maintain the expanded form.
